Toolkits
WhatWorks offers two toolkits specifically designed to meet the separate outcome measurement needs of Foundations and Nonprofits. For Foundations, we are launching the WhatWorks Foundation Effectiveness Toolkit this winter. For Nonprofits, we offer the WhatWorks Performance Measurement Toolkit.

WhatWorks Foundation Effectiveness Toolkit
Quantifying success to meet your mission...
The Center for What Works is excited to bring you the WhatWorks Foundation Effectiveness Toolkit, the first offering of its kind to assist foundation executives, program officers, grant managers and trustees to improve their understanding and practice of outcome measurement.
Foundations, do you face these CHALLENGES?
- Our goal is to selectively support nonprofits that will put our funds to the best and highest use. How do we systematically select grantees based on their likely impact?
- We are continually questioning the impact of our foundation and the impact of our grantees yet the concept of "impact" remains elusive.
- How do we ensure we are allocating our resources to programs that do the most good?
- Is it possible to compare results across our grantee programs?
WhatWorks SOLUTION:
Poised to launch this winter, the Toolkit is a direct reflection of your needs voiced in our extensive market research and actualizes well-regarded philanthropic research reports including those published by the Urban Institute, the Center for Effective Philanthropy, Grantmakers for Effective Organizations, GrantCraft, TCC Group and Project Streamline.
Toolkit BENEFITS:
- A clear understanding of the often cited but commonly misused terminology “outcomes and impact” to communicate more effectively internally as well as with applicants;
- The ability to right-size expectations of the results and related reporting requirements of grantees relative to the amount of money granted;
- The tools to implement a process to collect consistent outcome information from grantees and make better funding decisions.
Tookit COMPONENTS:
- A readiness assessment tool
- Initial series of interactive live webinars
- Follow-up phone consultations to facilitate implementation
- Recorded/archived webinars to be viewed at your discretion

Performance Measurement Toolkit for Nonprofits and Funders
The Toolkit is an efficient and effective "How-To" guide for nonprofit executives, staff, and boards to tackle one of the most challenging issues facing the sector: how to measure and account for their results.
Although all of the parts of the Toolkit can be accessed separately, they work best when used in tandem. Click on the links below to go the pages featuring these innovative resources from WhatWorks.
